What is Traditional African Healing?

What is Traditional African Healing?

The use of medicinal plants as a fundamental component of the African traditional healthcare system is THE oldest and THE most assorted of all therapeutic systems! In many parts of Ancient Africa, traditional healers prescribing medicinal plants are the most easily accessible and affordable health resource available to the local community!

African traditional healing/medicinal practices is THE oldest as mentioned before! Africa is considered to be the cradle of mankind with a rich biological and cultural diversity marked by regional differences in healing practices! African traditional medicine in its varied forms is HOLISTIC, which involves both the mind, the body, and the spirit. The traditional healer typically diagnoses and treats the psychological basis of an illness before prescribing medicines, particularly medicinal plants or herbal remedies to treat these said symptoms!

My Beautiful Brown Kings and Queens, we have been ROBBED systematically of OUR ANCIENT connection and access to OUR land, thus ultimately to herbalism practices. Because herbal practices have been deemed "unholy" or "unjust" by white counterparts (via religion, via media, etc.) , it became stigmatized and made "unsafe" for us to practice. This robbed us of our original, ancient, and sacred  knowledge of OUR ancestral herbals, folkways, and rich traditions.

Today, because of systematic racism and historic erasure, we have been cut off even FURTHER from our Ancestral ways of healing. These many practices have helped MANY our ancestors survive and thrive from generation and generations.
